Collaborating in the Green

The Trust supported Robert Gordon University earlier this week.

Stage 1 Architecture students familiarised themselves with a series of significant historic sites in the city centre as part of their  History and Theory module led by tutor Craig Wilson. They were joined in the Green by Aberdeen City Heritage Trust. Douglas Campbell of the Trust said:

The Green is a fascinating part of the city where you can see the layering of development and changes that have occured through the area’s history. This is not only historically interesting, it can provide useful information that might inspire design and inform how existing or new sites and buildings are handled

The Green lays claim to being one of the oldest parts of Aberdeen. Archaeological finds in the vicinity date back to the Mesolithic period; about 8,000 years ago. It remained an important entry point to Aberdeen from the South and West through the medieval period until the construction of Union Street in the early C19th.
