Controversial roof extension explained

31 Jul 2014

The controversial expansion of Aberdeen Art Gallery was the subject of Aberdeen City Heritage Trust's Annual Lecture 2014

Nick Van Jonker from Gareth Hoskins Architects charted the evolving history of the building and described how the design intervention, including the copper and stainless steel roof extension added a new layer of history that would allow the gallery to continue to operate from the building in the future.

The fabric of the Gallery provided the cues for a presentation about the granite industry in the North East. Jenny Brown of Aberdeen City Council introduced the key figures involved in the industry's expansion and development and touched on the quality of the Gallery's collections and patronage.
